Our Dive Boat

Our Dive Boat

Booking our scuba diving trip with Buccaneer Diving, we had to be at the shop early in the morning. Since breakfast was provided at the hotel and we would be gone before it started, Lasse was able to talk the chef into making us a packed breakfast. For two of the days and four of the dives, we would just hop on the boat right outside the dive shop. Loading up the boat, we had a 30 min drive to the first diving spot, Powani Hill. The sea life here was pretty good and the coral was excellent. Lucky for us, Lasse had a waterproof camera from all the diving he had previous done and was able to capture some great pictures. On this dive, it was Lasse and I along with two other people in our group. Lasting about 40 min, it was a good first dive. The next dive of the day was about a 10 min boat ride from where we were and was called Stingray City. Here we did see a couple stingrays but what caught my attention even more was the two sea horses we saw! Our dive master ended up finding two different seahorses on this dive along with all of the other sea life. We were able to see a sea turtle, star fish, and a sea snake to name a few.

The next day we did another two dives. Both of these were on the east side of the island out front of our hotel. Arriving at the dive shop at 7am we loaded up the boat and were on our way. The first spot today was Powani North. A spot that was located on the reef just a little further north of where our first dive was yesterday. This dive showed us more beautiful coral located on the reef along with other various sea life. For the second dive, we headed back to Stingray City because of the current and tide. While here, we spent some time looking for seahorses again but didn’t end up seeing any. Overall, I would say both of these areas for diving were good but not great. Nevertheless I enjoyed these two days of diving a whole lot!

Mnemba Island

Mnemba Island

After diving the past two mornings, Lasse and I decided to take the next day off and dive the following day. For the last day, our dive site would be on the northern part of the island. It was a 45 minute drive to Mnemba where today’s dives would take place. The sea life here is supposed to be amazing with schools of fish everywhere. After loading up the boat, we had a bit of a ride to get to our dive spots. This was okay because the views from the boat were quite breathtaking at times! Our two dives at Mnemba did not disappoint at all. I loved every second of these dives and was very happy that we were able to dive this spot on the island. All of the good things we had heard about the diving at Mnemba were true.
