I don’t even know how to begin this. Yet another epic adventure with the infamous Evan Shaw. A quick four night trip where we had booked an apartment to ourselves. Not to mention Stew was meeting us for two nights.
Tuesday morning swung around and I met Evan at the train station, Stew came in later that day and met us at the apartment. Boy was it great to see both of them! It’s always awesome when friends and family are able to travel and meet me. After getting settled in, we were all hungry and headed to the original Hofbrahaus for some tasty food and drinks!
Now for the whole reason for this trip, it was Oktoberfest time! Heading to the festival, there was so much to do. 14 beer tents set up along with countless carnival games and rides including a roller coaster and ferris wheel. First things first, a beer and then walk around the carnival. Seeing the roller coaster, it was just calling our names to ride it with all the loops and spirals.
The early afternoon came upon us and Evan, Stew, and I headed back into a tent to claim our spot before it filled up. Some how we ended up sitting with a whole english speaking group which made the rest of the day a ton of fun. The tent kept filling up with more and more people making it crazier and crazier. We even met a couple German’s that invited us to be on tv. So who knows could’ve made it onto German television somewhere! Needless to say, we all had such a great night together.
In the morning, Stew left just before sunrise to catch his flight out while Evan and I headed back to sleep. We had decided to take a lazy day and head to the Englischer Garten. A massive park in the middle of Munich that is bigger than New York’s Central Park. With such a beautiful day outside, there were lots of people out enjoying the sun.
Riding the train back to the apartment, it was a last minute decision to go visit Olympiapark. Munich hosted the 1972 Olympics which provided us with the opportunity to visit the Olympic Swimming Hall and Olympic Stadium. Such a cool thing to see and experience! Climbing the nearby hill, we enjoyed the view it provided over Munich. This was the highest hill in the city making me realize flat southern Germany was.
Our last full day together arrived and back to Oktoberfest we headed. With such an early flight the following day, neither Evan or myself wanted to stay out too late. It was nice and sunny outside which constituted us enjoying drinks out on the patio creating a more relaxed experience. By staying outside, it also provided ample opportunity to truly walk around the carnival and see just how many people there were!
This was such a fantastic trip! Being able to experience Oktoberfest in Munich with Evan and Stew has been one to put in the books. It is another bucket lister that both Evan and I are able to cross off of our lists. I still can’t believe some of the journeys we have had and who knows what the next adventure with him will bring! Thank you Stew and Evan for meeting up with me and making Oktoberfest one amazing time!
